I was given this article about solitary confinement as my starting point.
Create an informative mini documentary that outlines what solitary confinement is, the issues with it, and what can be done to improve it. Tell the story of solitary and how spending months isolated only makes prisoners worse and run an experiment that showcases how isolation affects the brain.
I wanted the poster to push the feeling of being trapped and alone for months with little to do
to pass the time. I used a single white bar on a grimy black background to reflect this isolation
and loneliness. The single bar looks similar to the slit in the door prisoners receive their meals through, while also being a similar shape to the cell when viewed from above.
I filmed and interviewed participants who volunteered to try out an experiment that takes 20minutes and replicates the effects of isolation. The prison footage I used is all stock footage.
